We treat adult illness that does not need surgery: fever that will not settle, diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, breathing problems, stomach complaints and anaemia. We are the first department to see when symptoms do not clearly belong to one organ, and we coordinate care when several are involved.
We have five consultant physicians. They run a daily outpatient clinic and cover our wards and emergency department. Blood counts, blood sugar, thyroid, kidney and liver function, urine tests, X-ray, ultrasound and CT are all done here. When a specialist is needed we refer within the hospital, to cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery or critical care.

When to seek emergency care
Fever lasting more than a few days, a cough that will not settle, unexplained weight change or tiredness that does not lift: book an outpatient visit. A high fever with confusion, difficulty breathing, or a long-term condition that suddenly gets worse needs care at once. Our emergency department is open 24 hours, every day: come to our emergency department.
