We treat heart problems: chest pain, breathlessness, heart attack, heart failure, a heartbeat that is too fast, too slow or irregular, and heart valves that no longer work properly. We also treat blocked arteries in the legs.
Two consultant cardiologists see patients here, one of them trained in electrophysiology and the other in paediatric cardiology. Our cathlab performs angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker and device implantation, and electrophysiology procedures. We also do 2D echocardiogram, treadmill test (TMT) and Holter monitoring. Cardiac patients are admitted to our coronary care unit (CCU), which has anaesthetic cover.

- Coronary and peripheral angiography, dye and X-ray to show where an artery has narrowed
- Coronary and peripheral angioplasty, opening the narrowing, usually with a stent
- Complex angioplasty, for the left main artery, bifurcations and calcified arteries
- Intravascular lithotripsy (IVL), sound waves that crack hardened calcium
- Rotablation, a small burr that shaves calcium away
- Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), a view of the artery wall from inside
- Permanent pacemaker and left bundle branch pacing
- Implanted defibrillator (AICD), for dangerous rhythms
- CRT-P and CRT-D devices, which resynchronise a failing heart
- Electrophysiology study and radiofrequency ablation (EPS and RFA), mapping and treating the source of an abnormal rhythm
- Device closure of PDA, ASD and VSD, holes in the heart present from birth

When to seek emergency care
Severe chest pain, or chest pain with sweating, nausea, or pain spreading to the arm or jaw, is an emergency. Fainting, a racing heartbeat that does not settle, or sudden breathlessness also need immediate attention.
